So what exactly is Youth of Dope? Frankly, even WE need to take a second before we start answering that.
To sum it up, it is a Platform of Initiatives. There are 6 main pillars in which we operate: Hostel, Venue & Events, Merch, Sports Camps & Retreats, Activities, and Rugby. All departments either complement one another or are co-related, and all operate under the umbrella of the Youth of Dope. It’s like a house with six rooms to chill in, all connected through the hallway.
All YOD initiatives are anything but irrelevant to their roots. Our values & ideals, and we can’t emphasise this enough, are the core of everything we are, do, and participate in. They have been the fertilising ingredients of the YOD conception far before it was shaped to be as we know it today, and we mean to protect and maintain it this way for as long as it exists.
Respect & Acceptance, Unity & Community, Equality & Inclusivity, Transparency, Support, Harmonization with Nature & True Self, Focusing on the Present & Enjoying every step of the way are the high values we live by, and mindfully generate & run our projects aligned with.
We could expatiate about all our ideas’ and projects’ origins and backstories, but we prefer doing that face2face. What’s important to understand about our foundations, is that we built every YOD aspect within a change in perception of TIME. Time is precious, and wasting it by caging ourselves in life-sucking routines & habits has been our major concern. Contemporary trends say “Work – Life Balance”; we thought, why not Life Balance alone?
Life shouldn’t be dichotomised in before and after working hours, but approached as a whole. We wanted to become the most responsible and creative versions of ourselves, and we could only achieve that by shaping our days with activities, tasks and circumstances that we’d put ourselves into whatsoever- if “working” was not necessary for survival, if income was not an issue. This way, we started taking our dreams & passions seriously, converted them into projects, and started making a living out of them. Now we don’t go to work- we go ahead and live our days productively, tasting happiness all the more often.

The Cretan Gunners
The Cretan Gunners and the origins of the Youth Of Dope
Back in 2015, the need for free athleticism inspired the formation of a Volunteer Rugby team, the Cretan Gunners. The Gunners since day 1 have been deeply interwoven with Volunteerism, Free Athleticism for All, and Inclusivity; anyone could be a member, as long as the Values of the team inspired their embracement.
Together, with the guidance of the founding member (Michu Pichu) and 2 more founding members that later parted ways, they grew in numbers and initiated numbers of volunteer activities that cared for the wounded society (orphanages, schools etc) and the maintenance of the natural beauty of the island (via cleaning beaches and more) that were always concluded with celebrations through parties. The participation was wild.
